At its meeting on February 5, the East Maine School District 63 Board of Education approved the appointment of Sarah Ezzat as Principal of Mark Twain School. She will step into her new role on July 1 when current Principal Howard Sussman retires.

Ms. Ezzat has been Assistant Principal for Nelson Elementary School since 2022. Before joining District 63, she served with Baltimore City Public Schools, where she worked as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. Ms. Ezzat holds a B.A. in communications/social influence from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in education, administration, and supervision from Johns Hopkins University. She is currently working toward earning an Ed.D. in educational leadership from National Louis University.

"I am honored and thrilled to join the Twain community as your Principal next year," Ms. Ezzat notes. "I'm eager to get to know each of you and can't wait to learn about what makes it such a special place to learn and grow. With 16 years of experience as an educator, I am dedicated to fostering an environment where every student feels supported, inspired to set ambitious goals, and reach their full academic and personal potential. I look forward to partnering with you to ensure our students achieve success without boundaries at Mark Twain and beyond!"

District Superintendent Dr. Shawn Schleizer added, "Throughout her career, Ms. Ezzat has demonstrated a highly informed, consistent, positive, and child-centered approach to leadership. Her diverse experiential background, integrity, and instructional leadership make her a tremendous asset for Mark Twain.”
